IBS/IBD Diagnosis

It will be helpful if some of you could relate how you were first diagnosed with IBS/IBD or any other Bowel condition. What were your presenting symptoms? What tests were carried out? Who gave you the verdict? What has been your experience since?

Crohn's disease

United States physician who specialised in diseases of the intestines; he was the first to describe regional ileitis which is now known as Crohn's disease (1884-1983). The hallmarks of Crohn's disease are swelling of the gastrointestinal tract, abdominal pain and frequent diarrhoea.

Ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory disease of the large intestine, or colon. In ulcerative colitis, the inner lining (mucosa) of the intestine becomes inflamed (red and swollen) and develops ulcers (open, painful wounds). Ulcerative colitis is often the most severe in the rectal area, which can cause frequent diarrhoea.
