Dr Stanislaw Burzynski
Dr Stanislaw Burzynski was born in 1943 In Poland. In 1967 hi graduated from the Medical Academy in Lublin, Poland. In 1968, he received a Ph.D. in biochemistry.
Dr Burzynski moved to the United States in 1970 and worked at Baylor College of Medicine until 1977.
While undergoing his research Dr Burzynski made a profound discovery. He found that a strain of peptides in human blood and urine that had never been recorded in biomedical research. As his curiosity in these peptide groups grew, he made another profound observation that people who were inflicted with cancer seem to lack these newly discovered peptides in both their blood and urine. However, those who were healthy and free of cancer appeared to have an abundance of these peptides.
Dr Burzynski thought that if he could somehow provide a way to chemically extract these peptides from the blood and urine of healthy donors and use these peptides in those with cancer, perhaps it could be useful in treating the disease.
Dr Burzynski asked his lawyers' advice if he could use this experimental treatment and if he can use these peptides and if he can be involved in cancer research as a private company. Dr Burzynski's attorney investigated both state and federal law and found that according to both the Texas state and federal law, the use of any drug or new drug can be used to meet the immediate needs of the licenced doctor, particularly when there is no other available option for them. However. Dr Burzynski would not be legally allowed to introduce or deliver the new antineoplaston therapy into other states. He had to keep his activities only within his office to avoid breaking any law.
That year, he established the Burzynski Research Laboratory, where he began administering the antineoplaston therapy. Initially, the protocol was administered to 21 patients, but it was later offered more widely.
Dr Burzynski incorporated his pharmaceutical company, the Burzynski Research Institute, in 1984. Review of his scientific papers have disputed the design of the trials and scientific validity of the published results, as they would because it was going to seriously affect the sale of the extremely lucrative chemotherapy drugs.
In February 2017, following lengthy hearings, the Texas Medical Board recommended Burzynski's medical licence be revoked, with the revocation suspended, and a fine of $360,000 for billing irregularities and other violations.
Dr Burzynski was married to Barbara Burzynski, also a physician, until her death in 2021. They had three children, including Gregory Burzynski, a physician. Both Gregory and Barbara became board members of the Burzynski Research Institute and worked at the Burzynski Clinic.
