Dimethyl Fumarate (DMF) is an antifungal agent, often used as a mould inhibitor in certain products, including furniture. It is commonly used in sachets which are inserted into sofas and chairs to prevent mould during storage and transport in humid climates.

The problem arose in 2007 when thousands of people in the UK, and across Europe, started developing serious allergic reactions including blistering, rashes, and burns, mainly as a result of sitting on sofas treated with DMF. These reactions were sometimes so severe that they required hospital treatment.

However, the story seems to have been slightly confused in the question. There was indeed a significant reaction to this health crisis.
In fact, following an investigation into the cause of these allergic reactions, DMF was eventually banned across the European Union in 2009. The sofas were then recalled and, in some cases, destroyed.

Customers who had purchased affected sofas, which included some of the major retailers, were then entitled to claim compensation for the allergic reactions caused by DMF.

It should also be noted that DMF is not specifically linked to Chinese sofas. While many of the sofas in question were indeed manufactured in China, DMF is a common antifungal agent that was also used in other products and in other countries at that time.

Dimethyl fumarate (DMF), a chemical compound, has been associated with various medical conditions and side effects in some cases, including its use in products ranging from creams for psoriasis to shoe protection to prevent athlete's foot. In some situations, this has led to serious health problems.

In 2009, a Spanish man reportedly suffered serious injuries from shoes that were protected with DMF. He had purchased a pair of shoes that were protected against mould and fungi using the compound. After using the shoes, he developed severe eczema and even required hospital treatment.

Additionally, there have been instances where the use of DMF in the treatment of psoriasis has resulted in serious side effects. In some instances, these can be life-threatening, including a case in Germany which caused the death of a person. The incidents in Germany and Spain are severe enough for the EU to banning DMF in consumer products because of the serious health risks associated with its exposure.

HOWEVER,

Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) became a medication that is used to treat multiple sclerosis (MS), specifically the relapsing-remitting type. It works "by modifying the immune response" to reduce flare-ups. In addition, DMF is used in the treatment of psoriasis, a skin condition. It can be taken orally and is marketed under the brand name Tecfidera among others. Side effects may include flushing, stomach pain, and diarrhoea. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to potential harm to the baby.
It was first released in the USA at a cost of $55,000 per patient per year.

The irony is that it is sold in capsule form of 120mg and 240 mg. I was under the impression that a millionth of a grain of this substance is dangerous. What are the rest of the ingredients? Perhaps someone can enlighten us.

Please note, "by modifying the immune response", means it knocks out your immune system so you are much more susceptible to infections. The drug cannot provide a cure but may kill you, as has undoubtedly been proven. I first predicted this calamity 2 years before this drug was released on Facebook, asking people to find Chinese sofas so they could "accumulate this gold dust".
I was not wrong.
